Shopify for activewear

Shopify for Australian activewear brands

Activewear brands win on fit, community and drops. We build Shopify stores that are fast on mobile, clear on sizing and ready for a product launch that sells out in an hour.

Paceline

A concept store for a running brand that puts the run club and the kit on the same page.

What makes activewear hard to sell online

Fit and returns

Compression, length and support all affect fit. Returns are expensive, and clear fit guidance reduces them.

Drops and launches

A limited release can send a spike of traffic in minutes. The store must stay fast and the stock must not oversell.

Community

Run clubs and ambassadors drive sales. Referral codes and event signups need to fit with the shop.

Mobile speed

Most activewear traffic is on phones, often from Instagram. A slow page loses the sale.

What we build into the store

Size guide and fit finder

Measurements, fit notes by garment and a size finder, in a clear modal on each product.

Drop pages and countdowns

Scheduled launches, early access for members and clear sold-out states.

Fast mobile checkout

Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Afterpay and Zip, tested on real phones.

Member perks and referrals

Discounts for run club members, with codes tracked per group.

Back-in-stock alerts

Capture demand for sold-out sizes and use it to plan restocks.

Speed budget

Image sizing and theme choices checked against Core Web Vitals. See speed and Core Web Vitals.

The Australian rules we design around

Australian Consumer Law applies to activewear as to other clothing: faulty goods must be remedied, and change-of-mind returns are your own policy to state clearly. If you advertise performance or sustainability claims, such as moisture management or recycled content, they should be accurate and supportable. See our returns policy guide.

General information, not legal advice. Check with the regulator for your situation.

A store that can handle a drop

Launch days test stores. We plan limited releases with inventory buffers, a checkout test, a speed check and a fallback if traffic is heavier than expected. For very large events, Plus offers extra tools for the checkout, scoped separately.

Our concept store Paceline shows a high-contrast, full-bleed running layout with a size guide. It is a concept we designed, not a client.

Fit information that cuts returns

  • Show the size the model wears, plus height and measurements.
  • Add fit notes per garment such as 'true to size' or 'size up for layering'.
  • Offer exchanges first, with store credit as an easy alternative.
  • Review return reasons each month and update fit notes accordingly.

Seasonal peaks and cross-border sales

Running calendars drive sales around major races and the new year, alongside EOFY, Black Friday and Boxing Day. We plan campaigns and email flows around them. NZ is the natural first export market, with Shopify Markets handling local pricing. See selling to New Zealand.

Most activewear brands fit Custom. Drop-heavy brands may need Plus. See pricing or contact us.

What a good activewear product page needs

Activewear shoppers buy for a purpose and test claims against their own experience. The page should be specific.

  • Fabric function explained simply, such as moisture-wicking, compression level and four-way stretch, without claims you cannot back up.
  • A fit guide with measurements, model sizes and a note on how each cut sits.
  • Activity tags, such as run, gym or yoga, so shoppers can filter by what they do.
  • Colour variants with images that switch, including a shot in motion.
  • Pockets, seams and details shown close up, because those decide repeat purchases.
  • A short video on mobile, kept light so it does not slow the page.

Squat-proof, sweat-proof or similar claims should be true under normal use, since misleading claims are a consumer law problem. Reviews that ask about fit give real shoppers something useful. Keep mobile speed in mind, because most visits come from phones. Our speed guide covers the checks.

Apps we use for activewear stores

Activewear brands live on community and launches, so the apps focus on retention and drops.

  • Kiwi Sizing or a similar tool for fit finders and size charts.
  • Klaviyo for email and SMS, with consent collected properly under the Spam Act.
  • Judge.me, Okendo or Stamped for reviews with fit feedback.
  • Smile.io or ReferralCandy for loyalty and referral programs.
  • Locksmith for early access collections for members.
  • Shopify's product scheduling to publish a drop at a set time. On Plus, Launchpad handles larger drops.

A drop needs more than a button. Test checkout on mobile, load stock counts accurately and plan the email and SMS sequence. Keep the app list short so launches stay quick.

Common questions

Can Shopify handle a product drop?

Yes, with the right preparation. We test checkout, buffer inventory and optimise the theme. Very high-volume events may need Plus.

How do I reduce fit-related returns?

Publish measurements, state the size the model wears and add garment-specific fit notes based on real return reasons.

Can I give run club members discounts?

Yes, with discount codes per club or customer tags and automatic discounts.

Does speed really matter?

Most visitors come on phones, so slow pages lose sales. We set a speed budget during the build.

Can I sell in New Zealand?

Yes, with Shopify Markets, which handles NZ pricing and shipping rates.

How do I run a limited drop?

Schedule the products to publish at a set time, announce the date to your list, and test checkout on mobile beforehand. Plus stores can use Launchpad for scheduled launches. Keep stock counts exact, so you do not oversell.

Can I give members early access?

Yes. Tag customers who qualify and restrict a collection to them with an app such as Locksmith. Tell members how it works in your emails before the drop.
