Shopify for jewellery

Shopify for Australian jewellery brands

Jewellery is a trust purchase, often a gift, sometimes engraved. We build Shopify stores with ring size tools, engraving options and high-value shipping, in a design that looks as good as the pieces.

Seam Jewellery

A concept store for a jeweller where engraving is part of the product, not an afterthought.

What makes jewellery hard to sell online

Personalisation

Engraving makes a piece unique, and it changes your returns position and your production flow. Orders need exact text, font and placement.

Sizing

Rings are the main source of returns. A good size guide, and ideally a printable ring sizer, reduces them.

High-value shipping

Valuable parcels need tracking, signature on delivery and insurance. Customers expect secure delivery.

Gifting peaks

Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Christmas dominate, with strict postage cut-offs and gift packaging expectations.

What we build into the store

Engraving options

Text field with character limits, font choice and a preview, captured as line item properties on the order.

Ring size guide

A measuring guide, a printable sizer and a clear policy on resizing.

Gift packaging and messages

Gift box options, a message card and gift cards for the undecided.

Made-to-order messaging

Lead times shown clearly for engraved or made-to-order pieces.

Secure shipping options

Tracked, signature-on-delivery services and insurance, set by order value.

Material and care pages

Details on metals, stones and care in structured fields, with consistent wording.

The Australian rules we design around

Australian Consumer Law applies, including the right to a remedy for faulty goods. Personalised or made-to-order items are often excluded from change-of-mind returns by the seller's policy, which is allowed if it is stated clearly before purchase, but faults still need a remedy. Claims about materials, such as recycled gold or ethical sourcing, should be accurate and supportable because misleading claims can breach consumer law. Describe metals and stones precisely. See our returns policy guide.

General information, not legal advice. Check with the regulator for your situation.

Engraving that reaches the workshop correctly

Engraving errors are expensive. We capture the exact text, font and position as order properties, show a preview before checkout and make the details visible in the order for your maker. Where possible, we add a confirmation step for long or unusual text.

Our concept store Seam Jewellery shows a dark, editorial layout with an engraving option. It is a concept we designed, not a client.

Shipping and insurance for valuable parcels

  • Offer tracked shipping as the default, with signature-on-delivery for higher-value orders.
  • Set insurance thresholds with your carrier and your own cover.
  • State dispatch times honestly for engraved items.
  • Show last-order dates before Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Christmas, using Australia Post's published dates.

Read our shipping guide.

Payments and gifting season

Instalments suit higher-value pieces, so Afterpay and Zip appear on product and cart pages. See Afterpay and Zip on Shopify. We also prepare gift flows and EOFY, Black Friday and Boxing Day offers that fit your margins.

Jewellery brands usually fit Custom for the design and engraving logic. See pricing or contact us.

What a good jewellery product page needs

Jewellery is a considered, often emotional purchase, and shoppers cannot hold the piece. The page has to be exact.

  • Metal and purity as they are, such as sterling silver, 9ct or 18ct gold, or gold plated, and never described as more than it is.
  • Stone type, size and cut, with certificates only when they exist.
  • Dimensions in millimetres, with a photo on a hand, neck or ear for scale.
  • A ring size guide using Australian sizing, with measuring instructions or a printable ring sizer.
  • Care instructions, and a note on how the finish wears.
  • Made-to-order lead time, engraving rules and the returns position for personalised pieces.

Material descriptions are advertising claims, and misleading ones fall under Australian Consumer Law. If a piece is plated, say so. Photograph each variant, since a gold and a silver version look different on the page. Metafields keep material and care fields consistent across the range.

Apps and planning for jewellery stores

Gifting drives jewellery, and the store has to make buying a present simple.

  • Engraving fields through line item properties or a product options app, with a clear character limit and preview.
  • Klaviyo for gifting flows, anniversary reminders collected with consent and post-purchase care emails.
  • Judge.me, Okendo or Stamped for reviews with photos of the piece being worn.
  • Shopify Flow to flag high-value orders for a manual fraud check before dispatch.
  • Gift wrapping as a product or option, with a gift message at checkout.

Peaks are Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Christmas, with engagement and wedding enquiries all year. Set order cut-offs for engraved pieces earlier than for stock items, and say so on the page. Shopify's fraud analysis helps assess risky orders, which matters for high-value parcels. See Afterpay and Zip on Shopify for payment options on larger purchases.

Common questions

Can customers add engraving at checkout?

Yes. We add text, font and placement fields, with a preview, and pass the details into the order.

Can I refuse change-of-mind returns on engraved pieces?

Often yes if your policy says so clearly before purchase. Faulty goods still need a remedy under consumer law.

How should I ship expensive pieces?

Use tracked shipping with signature on delivery and insurance suited to order value.

Can I sell rings of different sizes?

Yes. Ring size is a variant option, with a size guide and a printable sizer.

Does Shopify work for a dark, luxury design?

Yes. The theme is fully styled to the brand, and dark layouts are straightforward.

How do I offer engraving?

Add a text field to the product using line item properties or a product options app, set a character limit, and show a preview where you can. Make sure the engraving details appear on the order so the workshop sees them.

Can customers return engraved jewellery?

Change-of-mind returns on personalised items are your choice, so state the policy clearly before purchase. Faulty or misdescribed items are covered by consumer guarantees regardless of personalisation.
