Wix to Shopify

Wix to Shopify migration for growing Australian shops

Wix gets a first store online quickly. When you need better inventory, more payment options, apps and sale-day performance, Shopify is the usual next step. We move your products, customers and orders and redirect your Wix URLs so search traffic carries over.

Why brands leave Wix

  • Ecommerce depth. Shopify offers more apps, shipping and tax tools, and inventory features than Wix.
  • Scaling. Larger catalogues and busy sales are easier to manage on a platform designed for stores.
  • Fulfilment and shipping. Australia Post, Aramex and StarTrack integrations and label printing are easier to set up.
  • Marketing. Email flows, abandoned carts and Google and Meta feeds are better supported.
  • Platform lock-in. Wix sites are tied to Wix hosting and templates, which limits how far you can take the design.

What moves, and how

Products and variants

Wix lets you export your product catalogue to CSV, and we reformat it for Shopify. Titles, descriptions, SKUs, prices and variants move cleanly. Images are re-uploaded and checked.

Collections

Wix collections are recreated as Shopify collections, and rule-based ones can be rebuilt with tags.

Customers

Contacts and addresses export from Wix and import to Shopify. Passwords do not move, so members are invited to create new accounts.

Order history

Orders can be exported and imported as historical records, though Wix's export is less detailed than other platforms, so we check what fields you get.

Reviews

Depends on the Wix app you used. If it exports, reviews go into a Shopify reviews app. Otherwise they may need to be re-collected.

Gift cards

Outstanding balances are recreated as Shopify gift cards.

Blog posts and pages

Wix has no clean blog export, so posts are moved by script or rebuilt by hand with images and internal links fixed.

Bookings, members areas and Wix apps

These do not transfer. We replace each with a Shopify app or advise a separate tool.

What changes in your URLs

Wix product pages generally sit at /product-page/product-name, and store category pages commonly at /category/category-name. Blog posts typically sit at /post/post-title. Shopify uses /products/, /collections/ and /blogs/news/. Because every product address changes, the redirect map is the most important part of the job.

Wix gives limited control over the old site's structure, so we crawl it, check your Search Console data and build 301 redirects for each page that has rankings or links. Shopify redirects work one path to one path.

Typical patterns. We confirm them against your live site.

What needs real work

  • Domain. If your domain is registered or connected through Wix, we move or repoint it at launch without downtime. Keep the registration under your own control.
  • Design. Wix layouts are drag-and-drop and do not export. The Shopify theme is built fresh, and you gain from a proper store design.
  • Email. If you used Wix email marketing, we rebuild the lists and flows in Shopify Email or Klaviyo. See Klaviyo flows for Shopify.
  • Payments. We set up Shopify Payments, Afterpay, Zip and PayPal. See Shopify Payments in Australia.
  • Data gaps. Some Wix data, such as detailed analytics history, does not export. We recommend saving reports before you cancel.

How the migration runs

  1. Step 1

    Export and audit

We export your catalogue, customers and orders, crawl the site and list your top pages.

  2. Step 2

    Build

We build the Shopify theme and import your data to staging.

  3. Step 3

    Redirects and testing

We load the redirect map, test checkout and check mobile speed.

  4. Step 4

    Launch

We switch the domain, submit the sitemap and monitor Search Console.

Migrations are included in the Custom package ($18,500 ex GST). If you want a smaller, template-based setup with a catalogue you can import yourself, the Launch package may fit instead, and we will say so. See pricing.

Protecting your Google rankings

  • Step 1Crawl the live Wix site to capture every /product-page/, /category/ and /post/ address, since Wix has limited sitemap detail.
  • Step 2301 each product, category and blog URL to its Shopify equivalent, prioritising pages with Search Console clicks and backlinks.
  • Step 3Keep titles, meta descriptions and alt text, adding them into Shopify's SEO fields since Wix exports them inconsistently.
  • Step 4Keep the same domain, remove the Wix connection cleanly at cutover and resubmit the sitemap.
  • Step 5Monitor 404s and indexing in Search Console for several weeks after launch.

When to stay on Wix

If you sell a handful of products and the site is mostly bookings, a portfolio or a brochure with a small shop, Wix may be enough. Wix is also reasonable if you use its booking, events or restaurant tools heavily and ecommerce is secondary. Moving costs time and money, and a very small shop may not recover them. If sales are modest and the site works, wait until you are limited by the platform. Our comparison of Shopify against Wix and Squarespace sets this out. If you are unsure, talk to us and we will say plainly if you should wait.

Wix to Shopify: common questions

Can I export my Wix products?

Yes. Wix lets you export products to CSV from the store dashboard. We reformat that file for Shopify and check variants, images and prices.

Will I lose my Google ranking?

Some movement is normal. A full 301 redirect map from /product-page/ and /category/ URLs and carried-over metadata keep it to a minimum. We monitor after launch.

What about my Wix blog?

It does not export cleanly, so we move posts by script or by hand and redirect each /post/ URL to its new address.

Can I keep my domain?

Yes. We repoint it to Shopify at launch. If it is registered through Wix, we can transfer it or just change the DNS records.

Do I need the Custom package?

Not always. Migration is included in Custom. If your catalogue is small and you are happy with a premium template, Launch may be enough. We will say which at scoping.

How long will it take?

3 to 6 weeks depending on catalogue size and content volume.
