Shopify SEO

Shopify SEO for Australian ecommerce brands

We fix the technical issues Shopify stores usually carry, build collection pages that rank, and write product content that answers buyer questions. You get more organic traffic from people ready to buy.

Right for you if

  • You get little organic traffic and rely on paid ads or social.
  • You recently migrated and want to protect or recover rankings.
  • Your collection pages are thin and your product pages repeat supplier copy.
  • You want an SEO plan that fits Shopify rather than generic advice.

What's included

  • Technical audit covering crawl, indexation, duplicate URLs, speed and structured data
  • Keyword research for collections, products and guides in Australian search
  • Collection page rewrites with useful copy above or below the product grid
  • Product title, description and metadata improvements
  • Internal linking and navigation changes that help search engines and shoppers
  • Content planning for guides, comparisons and buying advice
  • Search Console and GA4 setup and monthly reporting
  • Redirect and 404 clean-up

What makes Shopify SEO different

Shopify handles a lot of basic SEO for you. It generates a sitemap, adds canonical tags, serves your store over HTTPS and gives you control over titles and descriptions on every page. That gets you a long way, and it is why many Shopify stores outrank larger competitors with the same effort.

There are also fixed constraints. URL prefixes such as /products/ and /collections/ cannot be removed. Product pages can be reached through several collection paths, which Shopify handles with canonical tags, but internal links need care. Filtered and sorted collection URLs can create thin duplicates if left unchecked. Apps often add heavy scripts that slow pages. Good Shopify SEO works with these facts rather than complaining about them.

We use the robots.txt.liquid template where a rule is justified, fix duplicate and thin pages, and limit app bloat. The checklist we start from is in our Shopify SEO checklist, and the speed side is covered in Shopify speed and Core Web Vitals.

How we run Shopify SEO

  1. Step 1

    Step 1: Audit

We crawl the store, review Search Console, check indexation and speed, and list what is hurting you in order of impact.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2: Fix the foundations

Duplicate URLs, broken redirects, missing structured data, slow templates and unhelpful titles. These are usually quick wins.

  3. Step 3

Step 3: Rebuild collections and key products

Collections are the main ranking pages for most ecommerce stores, so we start there with clear headings, useful copy, internal links and sensible filters.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4: Publish buying guides

Guides and comparisons that answer questions your customers ask before they buy, linked to the products they lead to.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5: Report and repeat

A monthly plain-English report showing clicks, impressions, rankings for target terms and what we did. We then choose the next batch of work.

Australian search considerations

Australian shoppers search with local terms and local expectations. They type colour, not color. They search for Afterpay, free shipping and delivery to their suburb. We write in Australian English, display prices with GST included and state delivery times by region. If you sell to New Zealand, we set up hreflang and Markets correctly so the right page appears for the right country.

If you have a physical shop, we set up Google Business Profile links and local landing pages only where they are useful. We do not create doorway pages for every suburb. For wine and spirits, health products and children's products, we follow the rules that apply to those categories; see selling alcohol online with Shopify.

Honest trade-offs

SEO is slower than ads and less predictable. If you need sales next week, run ads. If you want a lower cost of acquisition over the next year, SEO is a good investment, particularly for a catalogue with strong collections and a clear point of difference. It also competes for budget with CRO: a store that converts poorly wastes extra traffic, so see conversion rate optimisation too.

Shopify SEO: common questions

How much does Shopify SEO cost in Australia?

Shopify SEO is included in our Growth plan at $1,450 a month excluding GST, month to month. That plan also includes 10 hours a month of changes and a conversion improvement each month.

How long does Shopify SEO take to work?

Technical fixes can show effects within weeks. Collection page and content work usually takes 3 to 6 months to build. We report monthly so you can see progress without waiting for a ranking milestone.

Is Shopify good for SEO?

Yes, for most stores. It handles sitemaps, canonical tags and HTTPS, and lets you edit titles, descriptions and redirects. Limits include fixed URL prefixes and app-driven page weight, which we plan around.

Do you do link building?

We focus on earning links through useful content, digital PR ideas and supplier or stockist relationships. We do not buy links or use networks that put your rankings at risk.

Will you fix SEO after a migration?

Yes. We check redirects, indexation and rankings, and recover lost pages. Better still is planning SEO before migration, which our Shopify migration service does.

Can you help with Google Shopping and ads too?

We set up the product feed, Merchant Center and Google channel so listings appear, and we make sure data is accurate. Ad campaign management is outside our scope, but we work with your ad provider.
