What drives the cost of a Shopify website
Most of the price comes down to four things: how much design work is involved, how much data has to move, how many features sit outside standard Shopify, and how many systems the store has to talk to.
- Design. A premium theme styled to your brand is the cheaper route. A fully custom design is drawn in Figma and built as your own theme, which takes about twice as long.
- Migration. Moving from WooCommerce, Neto, BigCommerce, Magento, Wix or Squarespace means mapping products, customers and orders, then building a redirect map so your Google rankings carry over. Magento is usually the heaviest.
- Catalogue size. Loading 40 products is an afternoon. Loading 4,000 with variants, tags and metafields needs a clean source file and a tested import.
- Features. Subscriptions, wholesale pricing, selling into other markets and integrations each add build and testing time.
Our three build packages are Launch, Custom and Plus. The estimator picks the one that fits your answers, then adds ranges for the extras.
Running costs after launch
The build is a one-off cost. The running costs are what you pay each month, and they are paid to different people.
- Your Shopify plan, billed by Shopify. In AUD, Basic is $42 a month on yearly billing, Grow $114 and Advanced $431. Monthly billing costs more. Plus starts from $3,700 a month. See Shopify pricing in Australia for the full table.
- Apps, billed by each app developer. Most stores run a handful: reviews, email, search or subscriptions. Treat the estimator's figure as a rough guide, because app prices change.
- Card fees, taken by Shopify Payments or your gateway on each sale. They scale with your sales, so they are not in the estimate.
- A care plan, if you want one. Care is $390 a month, Growth $1,450 and Partner $2,900, all month to month and ex GST.
Ways to spend less
- Start on Launch and add features once the store is earning. Subscriptions and bundles are easy to add later.
- Clean your product data before we start. A tidy spreadsheet with consistent titles, variants and image names saves clean-up time.
- Write your own copy, or at least your product descriptions. Nobody knows your range better than you do.
- Pay for Shopify yearly once you are confident the store will trade for the year.
- Skip integrations you do not need yet. A manual Xero export works for a while at low order volume.
- Leave room in the timeline. A launch inside 6 weeks adds a priority loading to the range.
Cost questions
How much does a Shopify website cost in Australia?
It depends on the build. Our packages start at $8,900 for Launch, $18,500 for Custom and from $35,000 for Plus, all ex GST. Your Shopify plan, apps and any care plan are monthly costs on top of that.
Is this a quote?
No. It is an estimate based on the answers you give. A fixed quote comes after we look at your products, your current site and any integrations. The quote is the price you pay.
What does Shopify charge each month in Australia?
Shopify bills you directly. In AUD, Basic is $42 a month on yearly billing or $56 monthly, Grow is $114 or $149, and Advanced is $431 or $575. Plus is from $3,700 a month. Prices change, so check Shopify's Australian pricing page.
Why does a migration cost more than a new store?
A migration moves your products, customers and order history, and needs a redirect for every old URL so your search rankings survive. That is extra data work and extra testing, and it is why migrations sit in the Custom package.
