Shopify pricing in Australia: plans and fees in AUD

Four plans, two billing options and a handful of fee lines. Here is every Shopify price that matters to an Australian store, in AUD, and how to work out which plan pays for itself.

Updated 31 October 2026. 8 minute read.

The short answer

Shopify's Australian plans cost, per month on monthly billing, $56 for Basic, $149 for Grow and $575 for Advanced, with Plus from $3,700. Yearly billing brings those to $42, $114 and $431 per month. Online card rates fall from 1.7% + 30c on Basic to 1.15% + 30c on Plus. Shopify charges 10% GST on subscriptions unless you register for GST and add your ABN.

Shopify plans and prices in AUD

Shopify lists Australian prices in AUD on its Australian pricing page. All figures below are from that page as of late 2026. Shopify changes prices from time to time, so check the page before you commit.

Paying yearly takes the monthly price down by roughly a quarter on Basic and Advanced and by about 23% on Grow. Over a year that is $504 against $672 on Basic, $1,368 against $1,788 on Grow, and $5,172 against $6,900 on Advanced. The catch is you commit up front.

What each plan includes

Every plan gives you an online store, unlimited products, the checkout, and the admin. What changes is the card rate, the third-party gateway fee, reporting, staff accounts and a few features. We have listed only what we could confirm from Shopify's pricing page and help documentation, and we send you to the page for the full feature table.

Basic

Basic suits a new store or a small catalogue. It carries the highest card rates and the highest fee if you use a third-party gateway. If you plan to use Shopify Payments, that does not matter much at low volume.

Grow

Grow is the plan most established small brands end up on. Lower card rates, a lower third-party fee, and more reporting. It is where carrier-calculated shipping rates become available if you pay yearly (more on that below).

Advanced

Advanced carries the lowest card rates before Plus and is the right plan when your monthly card volume is high enough that the rate difference covers the higher subscription. It also includes third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates.

Plus

Plus starts at $3,700 a month, with the lowest card rates and a 0.2% third-party fee. It adds the controls larger operations need: checkout extensibility, B2B tooling, many markets and deep integrations. We cover when it is worth it in is Shopify Plus worth it in Australia, and we build Plus stores under our Plus package.

Card rates with Shopify Payments in Australia

Shopify Payments is Shopify's own payments product. It is the way to avoid the third-party transaction fee, because the fee only applies when customers pay through a gateway other than Shopify Payments.

Advanced1.35% + 30c2.7% + 30c1.65% + 0c
Plus1.15% + 30c2.6% + 30c1.45% + 0c

Some older articles show 1.75%, 1.6% and 1.4% for online cards. Those are not what Shopify's page shows now, which is one reason to read the page itself rather than a summary.

To see what a sale costs, add the percentage to the fixed 30 cents. A $100 online sale paid with a standard card costs $2.00 on Basic, $1.85 on Grow, $1.65 on Advanced and $1.45 on Plus. A $100 sale paid with Amex costs $3.20 on Basic. Small orders feel the 30 cents most, which is worth remembering if you sell low-price items.

Third-party gateway fees

If you take payments through a gateway that is not Shopify Payments, Shopify charges a third-party transaction fee on each order: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. The gateway then charges its own processing rates separately.

That means a gateway needs to beat Shopify Payments by more than the third-party fee to be worth using. For most Australian stores it does not, so a third-party gateway usually makes sense only for a specific reason: an existing merchant agreement, a bank relationship, or a payment method that Shopify Payments does not offer.

Which plan to pick

Two questions decide it: how much you process by card each month, and which features you need. The first one is arithmetic.

The break-even maths

Compare yearly billing. Grow costs $72 a month more than Basic ($114 against $42), and its online card rate is 0.15 percentage points lower (1.55% against 1.7%). To recover $72 at 0.15% you need about $48,000 a month in card sales through Shopify Payments. Below that, Basic is cheaper on fees alone.

Advanced costs $317 a month more than Grow on yearly billing ($431 against $114), and the rate is 0.2 percentage points lower (1.35% against 1.55%). Recovering $317 at 0.2% needs about $158,500 a month in card sales. Under that, Grow wins on fees.

These sums use only the published percentage rates and ignore the fixed 30 cents, which is identical across plans. They also ignore features. If you need something that only a higher plan has, the arithmetic is secondary.

Features that move the decision

  • Carrier-calculated shipping at checkout, which pulls live rates from carriers such as Australia Post. It is part of Advanced and Plus. Reports from Shopify merchants say Grow includes it on yearly billing, and some say Basic does not support it. Confirm in your admin before relying on it. See shipping with Australia Post.
  • Wholesale and B2B. Plus has the deepest tooling. Smaller operations often get by on Grow or Advanced with apps. See Shopify B2B and wholesale.
  • Multiple markets and currencies. Selling into New Zealand is the usual first step. See selling to New Zealand with Markets.
  • Staff accounts and reporting depth, which is on Shopify's plan comparison table.

Other costs on the Shopify bill

  • Point of sale. Shopify's page lists POS Pro as an optional add-on at $129 a month per location. The in-person card rates are in the table above.
  • Trial. At last check, Shopify offered 3 days free then $1 a month for 3 months on most plans. It changes, so check before you sign up.
  • Apps. Billed by each developer, shown in the App Store listing.
  • Themes. Free themes cost nothing. Paid themes are a one-off licence for one store.
  • GST. 10% on the subscription for Australian stores that are not registered for GST with an ABN on the store.

A quick way to decide

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Estimate your monthly card sales for the next 12 months, not your best month.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Decide whether you will use Shopify Payments. If you are not sure, assume yes.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Work out the monthly fee cost on each plan using the rates above, and add the plan price at yearly billing.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Check whether any feature you need is missing on the cheaper plan. If it is, that plan is out.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Start on the cheaper plan. You can change plans from the admin as you grow, and you do not have to rebuild anything to do it.

Two worked examples

Here are two stores with an average order of $80, both paying by Shopify Payments with standard Australian cards. We use the yearly-billing monthly prices and ignore Amex, apps and GST to keep the sums clear.

Store A takes $20,000 a month, which is 250 orders. On Basic the percentage fee is $340 and the 30 cent fixed fee adds $75, so card fees are $415. Add the $42 plan and the month costs $457. On Grow the percentage fee is $310, plus the same $75, plus the $114 plan, which is $499. Basic is $42 cheaper.

Store B takes $80,000 a month, which is 1,000 orders. On Basic the percentage fee is $1,360 and the fixed fees are $300, plus the $42 plan, which is $1,702. On Grow it is $1,240 plus $300 plus $114, which is $1,654. Grow is $48 cheaper. That matches the break-even of about $48,000 a month worked out above.

The lesson is that the plan price is a small part of the bill once you trade at volume, and the card rate is a large part of it. It also shows why you should not pay for a higher plan just because it sounds more serious. Start where your volume sits and move when the sums say so.

Questions

How much is Shopify per month in Australia?

As of late 2026, Shopify's Australian pricing page lists Basic at $56 a month on monthly billing or $42 a month billed yearly, Grow at $149 or $114, Advanced at $575 or $431, and Plus from $3,700. Prices are in AUD and change from time to time.

What are Shopify Payments fees in Australia?

Online card rates are 1.7% + 30 cents on Basic, 1.55% + 30 cents on Grow, 1.35% + 30 cents on Advanced and 1.15% + 30 cents on Plus. Amex is higher. In-person rates are lower and have no fixed 30 cents.

What is the third-party transaction fee?

A fee Shopify charges when customers pay through a gateway other than Shopify Payments: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Your gateway's own processing fees come on top.

Is yearly billing worth it?

It lowers the monthly price by roughly a quarter on Basic and Advanced. It makes sense if you are confident the store will trade for the year. If you are still testing the idea, monthly billing keeps your commitment short.

Can I change plans later?

Yes. Shopify lets you move between plans from the admin, and your products, theme and data stay as they are. Moving to Plus is more involved and usually comes with a build or migration discussion.
