Conversion rate optimisation
Shopify conversion rate optimisation
We find where shoppers leave your store and fix it, one test at a time. More of the traffic you already pay for turns into orders.
Right for you if
- You spend on ads or SEO and want more orders from the same traffic.
- Add-to-cart rates look fine but checkout completion is low.
- You are not sure which part of the store is costing you sales.
- You want improvements based on evidence rather than opinions.
What's included
- Funnel analysis in GA4 from landing page to purchase
- Session recording and heatmap review with a tool such as Microsoft Clarity
- Mobile and desktop usability review of home, collection, product, cart and checkout
- Customer research from support emails, reviews and short on-site surveys
- A prioritised list of changes, with expected effort and impact
- Implementation of changes in your theme
- A/B tests where traffic supports them
- Monthly report of what changed and what we learned
What CRO means on Shopify
Conversion rate is the share of visitors who buy. Conversion rate optimisation is the process of finding what stops the rest and fixing it. It is not a bag of tricks like fake countdown timers. It is research, a hypothesis, a change and a measured result.
Shopify gives us a strong base. Its checkout is well tested and supports Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and, in Australia, Afterpay and Zip. The gaps are usually above checkout: unclear product pages, slow mobile performance, weak delivery information, confusing navigation and missing trust signals. Those are the things we look at first.
We also check your numbers before we touch anything. If you get a few hundred visits a month, A/B testing will not give reliable results, so we focus on evidence-based fixes instead. See Shopify speed and Core Web Vitals for one of the biggest low-risk improvements.
How a CRO cycle works
Step 1
Step 1: Measure properly
We check GA4 events for view item, add to cart, begin checkout and purchase, and confirm they match Shopify's reports. Bad tracking leads to bad decisions.
Step 2
Step 2: Find the leaks
We compare conversion by device, traffic source and landing page, then watch recordings of real sessions where people left.
Step 3
Step 3: Hypothesise and rank
Each idea is written as: because we saw X, changing Y should improve Z. We rank by impact and effort.
Step 4
Step 4: Ship the change or run the test
Clear fixes are shipped directly. Uncertain ones are tested against the current version for long enough to reach a trustworthy result.
Step 5
Step 5: Record the result
Winning and losing tests both go into your report so you build knowledge over time and avoid repeating mistakes.
Fixes that matter for Australian stores
- Show the delivery cost and estimated arrival on the product page, not first at checkout. Surprise shipping costs are a common reason people abandon carts.
- Show GST-inclusive prices consistently, and say clearly if wholesale prices are ex GST.
- Message Afterpay or Zip instalments near the price, as covered in Afterpay and Zip on Shopify.
- Offer free-shipping thresholds set from your average order value so they lift basket size without eating margin.
- State your returns policy in plain words, aligned with the Australian Consumer Law; see returns and the Australian Consumer Law.
- Add real reviews only. Never invent star ratings or testimonials, which can breach the ACL.
- Improve abandoned-cart and post-purchase email with Klaviyo flows.
Honest trade-offs
CRO does not fix a poor offer or the wrong traffic. If ads bring people who are not your customers, no layout change will rescue conversion. We will tell you when the problem is upstream. Results also vary: some changes help, some do nothing, and some make things worse, which is exactly why we test.
| Approach | Good when | Weak when |
|---|---|---|
| Direct fixes from research | Traffic is modest and problems are obvious | Changes are subtle and need proof |
| A/B testing | Traffic is high enough for a clear result | Few orders per month |
| Redesign | The structure is wrong across the store | Only one page underperforms |
If research shows the foundations are wrong, a redesign may be cheaper than endless tweaks. We would then point you to Shopify store design.
Pricing and timing
First fixes in 2 to 4 weeks; results build over 3 to 6 months
CRO is built into our Growth plan at $1,450 a month excluding GST, which includes a conversion test or improvement each month, 10 hours of changes and a plain-English report. Partner at $2,900 a month adds more hours and email work in Klaviyo. A one-off CRO audit can be scoped on request. All plans are month to month.
Conversion rate optimisation: common questions
What is a good conversion rate for a Shopify store in Australia?
It depends on your category, price and traffic source, so we compare you against your own history and your own funnel rather than a generic benchmark. We will not quote a figure that we cannot support.
How much does Shopify CRO cost?
CRO is part of our Growth plan at $1,450 a month excluding GST, month to month. That includes a conversion test or improvement every month alongside SEO work and monthly reporting.
Do I need a lot of traffic for A/B testing?
Yes, enough to produce a reliable result in a sensible time. If your traffic is low, we use research and direct fixes rather than running underpowered tests.
Will you change my checkout?
Standard plans have limited checkout customisation, mostly branding and payment methods. Shopify Plus allows deeper changes through checkout extensibility. We work within the limits of your plan; see Shopify Plus.
Can CRO help with abandoned carts?
Yes. We review the cart and checkout experience, then improve your abandoned-cart emails and timing in Klaviyo or Shopify Email.
Do you use fake urgency or scarcity?
No. Fake countdowns and invented stock levels can mislead customers and may breach the Australian Consumer Law. We use real information only.
