Shopify store design
Shopify store design for Australian brands
We design Shopify stores that look like your brand and sell to Australians without friction. GST, Afterpay, Zip, Australia Post and NZ shipping are set up from day one, not bolted on later.
Right for you if
- You are launching your first Shopify store and want it to look like a real brand, not a template.
- Your current store looks dated or confusing and customers drop out before checkout.
- You sell mostly to Australia, with New Zealand as a likely first export market.
- You want a fixed price and a date, not an hourly estimate that keeps growing.
What's included
- Brand-led design of home, collection, product, about, contact, FAQ and policy pages
- A premium Online Store 2.0 theme set up and styled (Launch) or a bespoke theme (Custom)
- Product and collection structure, filters and navigation planned around how people shop your range
- Shopify Payments, Afterpay or Zip, and PayPal configured
- GST, shipping zones and Australia Post or CouriersPlease rates
- Welcome and abandoned-cart email flows in Klaviyo or Shopify Email
- Google Analytics 4, Search Console and Meta pixel installed and tested
- A training session so your team can edit the store without calling us
What Shopify store design covers
Design on Shopify is more than choosing a colour palette. It is the structure of your catalogue, the order of information on a product page, the wording of a delivery promise, and how the store behaves on a phone in the hand of someone standing in a queue. Most Australian ecommerce traffic arrives on mobile, so we design the phone layout first and scale up to desktop.
We work in Shopify's Online Store 2.0 architecture. That means sections and blocks on every page, so your team can rearrange the home page, add a feature row to a product page, or build a campaign landing page without a developer. You get the freedom to change things, and we keep the underlying code clean enough that updates do not break it.
We do not start with a theme demo and swap the logo. We start with your products, your customers and what you want the store to do in the first year, then pick the right foundation. Sometimes that is a well-built premium theme styled hard to your brand. Sometimes it is a custom theme, covered in custom Shopify themes.
How a design project runs
Step 1
Step 1: Discovery and structure
A working session on your brand, customers, range and competitors. We agree the sitemap, collection structure and the three or four jobs the store must do, such as selling gift sets or capturing wholesale enquiries.
Step 2
Step 2: Design direction
Type, colour, imagery and layout for the key pages, shown on phone and desktop. You review, we revise. Nothing is built until the direction is signed off.
Step 3
Step 3: Build and load products
We build the theme, load up to 150 products with variants and images (Launch), and connect payments, tax, shipping and email.
Step 4
Step 4: Test like a customer
We place real test orders with Afterpay, Zip, PayPal and card, check GST on receipts, test shipping rates to metro, regional and NZ addresses, and review every page on real phones.
Step 5
Step 5: Launch and train
We point your domain, confirm tracking and Search Console, and run a training session recorded for your team. Custom projects get 30 days of priority fixes after launch.
Built for how Australians pay and receive orders
Australian shoppers expect prices shown with GST included, a clear delivery cost before checkout, and the option to pay in instalments. We set your store to display tax-inclusive prices, configure 10 per cent GST correctly on products and shipping, and make sure invoices and order emails read the way Australian customers expect. Our guide to Shopify GST setup in Australia goes through the settings in detail.
Afterpay and Zip are set up as payment methods and, where it makes sense, messaged on product and cart pages so buyers see the instalment option early. See Afterpay and Zip on Shopify for how that works and what it costs you in fees. Card payments go through Shopify Payments where it suits your business; our notes on Shopify Payments in Australia cover the trade-offs.
Shipping is where many first stores go wrong. We set up zones for metro, regional and remote Australia, add rates from Australia Post or Aramex, and offer free-shipping thresholds that protect your margin. If you need StarTrack for bulky or time-critical freight, we plan that in too. See Shopify shipping with Australia Post and StarTrack.
Returns copy matters under the Australian Consumer Law. Your policy cannot say that all sales are final where a consumer guarantee applies. We write returns and warranty pages that are clear and compliant; see returns and the Australian Consumer Law. This is general guidance, not legal advice, so have your lawyer check final wording.
Honest trade-offs
A premium theme is the fastest and cheapest route to a good-looking store, and for many first stores it is the right call. The trade-off is that you share a code base and a layout vocabulary with other brands using the same theme. If your brand depends on a distinctive layout, a template will eventually feel limiting and a bespoke build is worth the extra spend.
| Launch | Custom | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Premium theme, styled to your brand | Designed from scratch in Figma |
| Best for | New brands and first stores | Established brands that have outgrown a template |
| Migration from another platform | Not included | Included, with full 301 redirect map |
| Editable sections | Theme sections | Custom sections built for your team |
| Timeline | 4 to 6 weeks | 8 to 10 weeks |
Design also cannot fix a weak offer. Good photography, a clear value proposition and honest delivery times do more for conversion than any layout. If your product photos need work, we will say so early and tell you what to shoot. If you are choosing between platforms, read Shopify vs WooCommerce in Australia before you commit.

Shopify store design: common questions
How much does Shopify store design cost in Australia?
Our Launch package is $8,900 and our Custom package is $18,500, both excluding GST and both fixed price. Launch suits a first store on a premium theme. Custom suits an established brand that needs a bespoke design. Shopify's own plan fees and any paid apps are separate. Our post on Shopify website cost in Australia breaks down the full picture.
How long does it take to design and build a Shopify store?
Launch takes 4 to 6 weeks and Custom takes 8 to 10 weeks from the day we have your brand assets and product data. Delays almost always come from late photography or product spreadsheets, so we agree dates for those at the start.
Do I need to supply my own logo, photos and copy?
You supply the logo, product photography and product data. We structure the pages, write or edit key page copy with you, and tell you what imagery is missing. We can recommend photographers if you need one.
Can my team edit the store after launch?
Yes. Every page is built from sections and blocks in the theme editor. We run a training session and give you a short guide covering products, collections, banners, menus and discount codes.
Will the store work for New Zealand customers?
Yes. We can set NZ shipping rates and, using Shopify Markets, show NZ dollar prices and handle duties and tax settings for New Zealand. See selling to New Zealand with Shopify Markets.
Can you redesign my existing Shopify store instead of starting again?
Yes. If your current theme is sound we restyle and restructure it. If it is heavily patched with old apps, rebuilding on a clean theme is usually cheaper than fixing it, and we will tell you which case you are in after a short audit.
