Concept store. Furniture, Newcastle
A concept store for a furniture maker where size, timber and delivery are clear before checkout.

The brief
Blackbutt Furniture is a fictional Newcastle workshop, designed by Laneway Commerce as a concept store. It is not a real client. The imagined brief: a small workshop selling made-to-order tables and beds wants a store that handles large, heavy items, explains lead times plainly and gives buyers a delivery cost before they pay, since freight is the number one reason a furniture sale falls over.
A calm layout that lets the timber speak
The split hero pairs one large photo with a plain statement and two buttons. Neutral warm greys, square corners and a geometric heading font keep the page quiet, so the grain and joinery become the main character.
Product pages put length, timber and finish in options next to the price, with dimensions and construction in a list below. Furniture buyers measure before they buy, so the numbers come early.
Made to order without the confusion
Each product has a stated lead time, shown near the add to cart button and again in the cart. Variants are limited to size, timber and finish, so the catalogue stays clean. Orders get tagged with Shopify Flow, which sends the specification to the workshop and a confirmation email to the customer with an expected date.
Large items are paid in two parts. A deposit is taken at checkout and the balance before delivery, using a draft order and payment link.
Delivery quotes and Australian specifics
Freight for large furniture rarely fits standard shipping rates, so the store uses a delivery quote form by postcode, with metro areas calculated from a rate table and regional areas reviewed by the team. Delivery can be to the door, into the room of choice or with packaging removal. Prices include GST, and Afterpay and Zip appear on items over $1,000.
Returns for made-to-order goods are handled under Australian Consumer Law. See more on furniture stores and the shipping guide.
